Leak Detector and Protective Mat Saved me Thousands

How a $8 Gadget Saved Us From a Hidden Water Leak

You don’t always hear about problems before they happen. But this time, we did literally. Our guest bathroom had a slow leak starting under the sink. No puddle on the floor. No stain on the cabinet. Nothing you’d notice just walking by. That’s what makes small leaks so sneaky because by the time you can see the damage, it’s often already spread behind the walls or under the flooring.

Here is How We Found the Leak:
A leak detector which is a small sensor that sits under the sink and sounds an alarm the moment it senses moisture, Below is the link to what alerted us. It costs around $8 and is not Wi-Fi enabled so you have to be home to hear it but Wi-Fi options are available.

We also used a protective mat with a lip that is placed under the sink to catch any water before it reaches the cabinet floor or subfloor.

Together, they caught the leak early and contained it, before it could turn into a much bigger (and more expensive) problem.
Left alone, a slow leak like this can lead to:
• Water damage to cabinets and flooring
• Mold growth, which affects indoor air quality
• Costly repairs down the road

A Simple Takeaway
If you don’t already have leak detectors under your sinks, it’s one of the easiest upgrades you can make to protect your home. Pair one with a protective mat, and you’ve got a strong, low-cost line of defense against water damage.
